Before you continue with the Ireland Interns first registration route, please read the key information below carefully. This page brings together the main eligibility points, product limits, support rules, and insurance documents that apply before booking.
This route is designed for eligible international interns, trainees or placement participants travelling to Ireland for a first registration internship, traineeship or recognised work placement. It is not presented for ordinary employment, freelance work, contractor work, job seeking, manual work, IRP renewals, second/subsequent registrations, extensions, repeat applications or private medical insurance needs.
Before you buy
Please read the following points carefully before continuing:
- This route is for eligible international interns, trainees or placement participants travelling to Ireland for a first registration internship, traineeship or recognised work placement.
- Your internship, traineeship or placement must be connected to a host company, provider or organisation and supported by an official document.
- You may be asked to upload an internship offer, traineeship agreement, placement confirmation, host company letter, provider confirmation or another official document confirming your internship, traineeship or placement in Ireland.
- Paid and unpaid internships may be eligible, provided they meet the policy definition and do not involve manual work.
- Manual work, construction, machinery, power tools, electrical work, lifting and work at height are not accepted for this route.
- You must hold the required visa or immigration permission for the full insurance period.
- For this online route, the insured person must be aged 18 to 74 on the date they arrive in Ireland.
- The insured period for this online route can be from 6 to 366 days.
- Your insured period is calculated from your arrival date in Ireland until the day after your internship, traineeship or placement end date.
- If you buy after your trip has already started and there has been no continuous prior insurance, a 14-day waiting period may apply.
- There is no cover in your home country.
- Holidays are covered only up to 21 consecutive days within the insured period.
- This is emergency travel medical / medical expenses travel insurance. It is not private medical insurance, work insurance, employer liability cover, professional liability cover or workplace accident insurance.
- You should make sure your personal details, arrival date, internship / traineeship / placement details and policy dates are complete and accurate before documents are issued.

Claims and emergency support
If a serious illness or injury may lead to hospital admission, or if repatriation may be needed, emergency assistance should be contacted as soon as possible.
For hospitalisation, direct billing may be arranged once authorised. For most non-hospital treatment, the insured person usually pays first and then requests reimbursement with the required documents.
Keep invoices, receipts, medical reports, prescriptions, and proof of payment. Claims should be submitted as soon as possible after the incident.
