No. This is emergency travel medical cover for eligible incidents during your insured stay outside your home country. It is not a private health insurance plan for routine or elective care.

What does this policy cover in simple terms?

Eligible emergency medical expenses if you get sick or injured unexpectedly in Ireland, plus emergency assistance, repatriation when medically necessary, and defined benefits such as personal liability, personal accident, and hospital benefit.

Is this cover for emergencies or routine healthcare?

It is mainly for unexpected emergencies. Routine check-ups, elective care, and non-urgent treatment are generally outside the purpose of this cover.

What may be included under emergency medical expenses?

Eligible emergency treatment may include hospital care, urgent doctor visits, necessary tests, ambulance costs, and prescribed medication related to a covered emergency, subject to limits and policy conditions.

Are pre-existing medical conditions covered?

In general, no. Pre-existing conditions are usually excluded unless they are specifically accepted under the policy conditions.

Is emergency dental included?

Emergency dental for immediate pain relief may be covered up to the policy limit, provided the claim meets the policy conditions.

Does the policy include repatriation?

Yes. Repatriation and certain related emergency expenses may be covered when medically necessary and handled in line with the policy conditions.

Is there an online doctor or telemedicine service?

Yes. A complimentary telemedicine service may be available for suitable non-hospital cases through the 24/7 emergency assistance line.

Are prescriptions covered?

They may be covered when related to a new covered condition. Prescriptions for pre-existing conditions are generally not included.

Do I need a valid visa for the full cover period?

Yes. You must hold a valid visa for the full duration of your insured period.

Is there an age limit?

Yes. You must be under 75 on the cover start date. If you turn 75 during the insured period, cover continues until the end date shown on your certificate.

Does cover apply in my home country?

No. There is no cover for trips or holidays in your home country during the insured period.

Are there limits on holidays during my stay?

Yes. Holidays are limited to a maximum of 21 consecutive days within the insured period, and your trip length cannot exceed the insurance period shown on your certificate.

Do travel advisories affect cover?

Yes. If official travel restrictions or advisories apply in a way that affects your travel, cover may be restricted or unavailable.

Do my personal details need to match my official documents?

Yes. Your full name, dates, and other personal details should be accurate and consistent with your passport, visa, and school records.

How do I book?

Choose the option that matches your first-year stay in Ireland, complete the booking form carefully, upload the required Acceptance Letter, and pay securely online. Once your order has been received, your details will be processed and your insurance documents will be issued by email if everything is correct.

How far in advance can I buy?

You can generally buy well in advance of departure. Early booking is recommended so your details and dates are correct before you travel.

What documents will I receive?

You should receive your certificate of insurance together with the key policy documents that explain benefits, limits, exclusions, and claims steps.

How long does it take to get my documents?

In most cases, documents are issued by email after successful payment, subject to correct details, required documents, and final processing checks. Please make sure all information is accurate to avoid delays.

Can I pay by card?

Yes. You can pay online by credit or debit card.

Is my payment secure?

Can I pay in instalments?

No. This is a one-time payment.

Which option should I choose?

Depending on the option shown at checkout, durations may include 3, 8, or 12 months. Always choose the one that fits your initial stay.

When does cover start?

Cover starts from the cover start date shown on your certificate of insurance, provided your booking has been successfully processed and your documents have been issued. Your details and dates must be correct from the start.

Can the policy be backdated?

No. The policy cannot be backdated.

Can I buy after my trip has already started?

Sometimes yes, but there is no backdating, and if you already travelled without continuous prior cover, a waiting period may apply before protection starts.

Can I use this page to continue into a second year or renewal?

No. This page is only for the initial first-year Academic Year / Study & Work stage in Ireland.

How do I make a claim?

Follow the claims instructions in your policy documents and submit the claim with all supporting evidence as soon as possible after the incident.

What documents do I usually need for a medical claim?

Usually a medical report or certificate, itemised invoice, receipts or proof of payment, and prescriptions where relevant. Keep everything from the start.

Do I need to contact emergency assistance before hospital admission?

Yes. If hospitalisation or inpatient treatment is needed, contact the 24/7 emergency assistance line before incurring inpatient expenses whenever possible.

What should I do if I need a doctor but I am not being hospitalised?

For non-hospital cases, you can usually go to the nearest clinic or doctor, pay the cost, keep the documents, and then request reimbursement if the case is eligible.

Can I use telemedicine first?

Yes. For suitable non-hospital cases, call the 24/7 emergency assistance line on +353 1 233 7743 and ask whether telemedicine is appropriate for your case.

Which languages are available on the assistance service?

Support may be available in English, Spanish, Italian, and German.

How long do claims take?

It depends on the complexity of the case and how complete your documents are. Missing information is one of the main reasons for delays.

What is the maximum emergency medical limit?

Emergency medical, repatriation, and related covered expenses may be insured up to โ‚ฌ10,000,000, subject to the policy wording.

What is the excess?

The excess is the amount you pay toward an eligible claim before the policy contributes. For this Ireland product, the standard excess is โ‚ฌ80 in the relevant sections.

When does the excess apply?

It generally applies per incident or claim in the section you are claiming under, as set out in the policy schedule.

What is the personal liability limit?

The personal liability limit may be up to โ‚ฌ2,000,000, subject to the section rules, exclusions, and excess.

What are the hospital benefit, personal accident, and emergency dental limits?

Do I have to accept terms and policies to book?

What is the certificate of insurance?

It is the document that confirms your policy number, insured person details, programme details, and your period of insurance.
