It is a simple, supportive option for short stays in Spain, helping you stay focused on your plans, your course, and your time abroad.

Short study stays still come with real risks, from unexpected illness to disrupted travel plans or other issues that can affect your time abroad.

This cover is designed for eligible international students travelling to Spain for a language course outside their home country, with support focused on the situations that matter most during a temporary study stay.

It combines medical protection, travel disruption support, and practical help if something unexpected affects the trip before or during the stay, helping students feel more supported throughout their time in Spain.

It is intended to give students extra peace of mind during a short stay abroad, making it easier to deal with the unexpected while staying focused on their course, their plans, and their experience in Spain.

Core protection for your time in Spain

This Short Term cover brings together the main protection areas students are most likely to need during a short academic stay abroad. It includes protection for cancellation or curtailment, delayed or missed departure, baggage-related problems, emergency medical support, repatriation, hospital benefit, personal accident, personal liability, and other key travel-related risks, subject to the policy wording.

Emergency medical support

Includes protection for eligible emergency medical expenses during your stay in Spain, with medical and related emergency cover shown up to EUR 10,000,000. This section also includes repatriation expenses, emergency dental treatment up to EUR 300, and funeral or burial costs up to EUR 5,000.

Repatriation assistance

If a serious medical situation makes it necessary, this cover includes repatriation support as part of the emergency medical and other expenses section. Assistance is designed to help students get the right guidance quickly if a case becomes serious.

Cancellation or curtailment

If an eligible covered event affects the trip before departure or forces it to be cut short, this cover includes cancellation and curtailment protection. Standard cancellation, curtailment, and abandonment cover is shown up to EUR 7,500, with optional higher cover shown up to EUR 25,000.

Rearrangement support

If a trip needs to be reorganised before departure because of an eligible covered event, this cover includes rearrangement support, with additional costs shown up to EUR 1,000.

Delayed departure

If a student’s departure is seriously delayed for a covered reason, this cover includes delayed departure support. The policy schedule shows EUR 20 for the first 12 hours, then EUR 20 for each complete 12 hours after that, up to EUR 80.

Missed departure

If a covered disruption causes a student to miss departure, this cover includes a missed departure section, with the policy schedule showing support up to EUR 7,500.

Baggage delay

If checked baggage is delayed during the outward journey, this cover includes baggage delay support. The policy schedule shows emergency replacement cover up to EUR 100, subject to the policy conditions.

Baggage, personal money and travel documents

This cover also includes protection for certain baggage-related losses and specific issues affecting personal money or travel documents. The policy schedule shows baggage and travel document cover up to EUR 2,000, valuables up to EUR 250, personal money up to EUR 250, and travel documents up to EUR 250.

Hospital benefit

If a covered medical incident leads to hospitalisation, this cover includes a hospital benefit. The policy schedule shows EUR 20 for each complete 24 hours, up to EUR 100.

Personal accident protection

This cover includes personal accident and public transport accident protection for serious covered incidents during the insured trip. The policy schedule shows benefits up to EUR 25,000, depending on the type of claim and the insured person’s age.

Personal liability

Includes personal liability protection if the insured student becomes legally liable for certain accidental injury or property damage during the trip. The policy schedule shows personal liability cover up to EUR 2,500,000, with accidental loss of or damage to property up to EUR 500.

Death during a trip

This cover also includes a defined death during a trip benefit, with the policy schedule showing up to EUR 20,000.

How help works during your stay

This cover is not only about reimbursement. It also gives students access to support when they need help understanding what to do next, whether the issue is urgent, medical, or travel-related. Support is designed to help students act quickly and follow the correct process if something serious happens during their stay in Spain.

24/7 Emergency Assistance

If emergency treatment, hospital admission, or urgent repatriation support may be needed, students should contact the emergency assistance service as soon as possible.

Online doctor support

Students also have access to online doctor support by phone, video, and chat, making it easier to get medical guidance during their stay without unnecessary delays. This support can help with suitable non-hospital cases and may also help with prescriptions for new conditions in certain cases.

Multilingual help

Support is available in English, Italian, Spanish and German, helping students feel more confident when dealing with medical questions away from home.

Guidance when in-person care is needed

If a case cannot be resolved remotely, the student can be guided toward the appropriate next step, including attending a clinic, hospital, or medical centre in person. For hospitalisation, direct billing may be arranged once authorised through the assistance process; for many other cases, students may need to pay first and then request reimbursement with the required documentation.

Claims and reimbursement

For non-emergency claims, students should keep invoices, receipts, certificates, and any other required evidence. Claims may be submitted through the relevant claims route, and original proof of payment may be required.

Things students should understand clearly

Before buying, students should understand what this cover is for, what it is not for, and how the main rules work. This page is designed to explain the product clearly, but the full policy wording and product information documents remain essential before purchase.

This is not private medical insurance

This product should not be presented as full private medical insurance. It is designed to respond to accidents, sudden serious illness, and other defined insured events during an international study stay. Please read the full policy wording and product information documents carefully before buying.

Pre-existing conditions are restricted

Pre-existing medical conditions are not generally covered unless they fall within the acceptable conditions framework set out in the policy wording. Claims linked to certain recent surgery, inpatient treatment, or hospital consultations before purchase may also not be covered.

Home country is not covered

This cover is designed for students while they are abroad on their eligible study trip, not while they are in their home country.

Timing matters

If a policy is purchased after the trip has already started and there has been no uninterrupted prior cover, a 14-day waiting period can apply before cover becomes active.

Holiday limits apply

Personal holidays are only covered up to a maximum of 21 consecutive days per holiday and must begin and end within the insured period.

Some benefits apply only in specific circumstances

Cancellation, curtailment, missed departure, baggage delay, and other travel-related sections only apply in defined covered situations and subject to the product wording, exclusions, and claims conditions.

Short Term route only

This page applies only to the Short Term route for stays of up to 89 days. Final eligibility still depends on nationality, visa requirements, study type, and the checks applied during the application flow.
